Description
Golden Pond Guesthouse is a newly-opened guesthouse started in December, 2006, that has twin rooms and dormitory rooms (from two to six beds per room). When it comes to accessibility, we can't be beat! We are located less than five minutes from Hyehwa Station, near central Seoul, and literally one minute away from a major bus hub. There is a convenience store and a bank (that can exchange money) nearby.
When you stay at the Golden Pond Guesthouse, you'll enjoy the traditional Korean atmosphere which is lacking at many guesthouses in Seoul these days. As you can see from our photos, the Golden Pond building is modeled on a traditional Korean house (giwa-jip), whereas many other guesthouses are simply remodeled apartment buildings. In our main hallway, we have a beautiful and extensive skylight so that you can see the moon at night. You can even hang out on the roof in the Summer, Spring and Fall (we have a 'Stairway to Heaven' leading up to it)! We also have:
1. air conditioning
2. clothes drier (2,000 won)
3. Laundry machine
4. wireless capable
5. microwave
6. gas stove
7. iron
8. kettle
9. toaster
10. other kitchen appliances
11. information on sightseeing
12. publicphone
13. lockers
14. TV in every room
15. Refrigerator
We are only five minutes away from Sungkyunkwan University, which is over 600 years old and continues to be one of the most prominent universities in Asia for Confucian thought. We are also located near the Changgyeonggung and Gyeongbokgung palaces where the kings used to live. We are close to Dongdaemun Market, Namdaemun Market, and Kwhangjang Market, which is famous for its cloth.
1. Changgyeonggung: a five-minute walk
2. Gyeongbokgung Palace: 10 minutes away on a bus
3. Dongdaemun Market: two stops away on the subway
4. Namdaemun Market: 15 minutes on the subway
5. Kwhangjang Market: 10 minutes by bus
6. Sungkyunkwan University: five minutes on foot
7. Insadong: 5minutes by bus
Our staff is very hospitable and speak English well, so rest assured that there won't be any communication difficulties. There are many inexpensive restaurants and bars nearby and Hyehwa/Daehangno has quite a nightlife, so even if you're jet-lagged and wake up at 3:00 AM, there's always something to do. There are always plenty of people out and about, so it's a safe and quiet place.
Our manager can teach you how to make kimchi and how to sew Korean traditional quilts, as well as how to make ddeok (Korean rice cakes).
Let's share Korea's history, art, and culture!
