Inhacazul Lodge and the Island of Inhaca can only be reached by the few visitors that travel the 35Km across Maputo Bay by booking either a 2-hour early morning ferry trip across the bay or a short 15-minute afternoon island flight. These island transfers, depart from either Maputo's main Fishing Harbour or Maputo International Airport respectively.
We ask our clients to PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read all the following in-depth information about the island and lodge that is listed on this site carefully!! - So you fully understand what a tropical island vacation and a trip to the island entails, regarding getting to and from the island which has to be carefully planned and co-ordinated with the assistance of our Central Reservations Office..!
Please also carefully read the 'Island Transfers' Info as shown in the "Directions to get there" website info section, as we need to make sure you fully understand 'How and When' to get to and from the island correctly and in a timely manner....!! - After all we don't you getting lost on the way..!
Our staff at Central Reservations (Inhacazul Lodge) WILL HELP YOU with these transfer arrangements, as you must be aware of the correct times and travel options etc available of the island transfers that will 'connect' with your arrival and departure plan to or from Maputo.
Inhacazul Accommodation:
Inhacazul Lodge guest Accommodation is very limited (and hence private) with a total of only 8 guest units, (All are located in the tropical gardens at the rear of the beach..) in which we can only accommodate up to a maximum of 56 guests at anyone time, and hiring these accommodation units are booked out on a "daily" basis, and guests reside in these "self-catering" residence units - which comprise of either; four large "8 sleeper" Chalets or four "4+2 sleeper" Timber Cabin style guest units.. which allows our clients and visitors to really 'feel in touch' with nature..... and without the normal vacation overcrowding that can be experienced at other locations in Mozambique and elsewhere along the African coastline...
The four Timber style Cabins units (as shown on this site) that are available to 'budget travellers' can ideally sleep 4 guests but can sleep up to a maximum of 6 guests per Cabin (1 double bedroom & 2 single bunk-beds with an additional Sofa/Twin Bed located in the Lounge) these cabins are built raised off the ground for added coolness but are additionally further cooled by electric ceiling fans in all rooms.
Unfortunately we do not provide "room" or "bed" type of accommodation only (like a Dorm or Hotel) – unless we are very quite or sometimes during Midweek in our "off-season" periods – its better to check with our Central Reservations office first to make sure what accommodation is available..!
We do however provide a "couple-sharing" accommodation option on request if we are not to busy. The island and lodge is also a safe location for children of all ages.
Therefore, Guests can chose to book accommodation based on the mix of your party, on a daily-basis for as many days/nights as you wish to stay on the island. (Please carefully review the guest unit room "layout plans" and sleeping/bed arrangements that can be reviewed on the right-hand-side of this web-page, [in the pictures] prior to booking a guest unit)…
Our private guest units are designed mainly for "self-catering" type visitors and are fairly well equipped and serviced daily.
PLEASE NOTE:
Our prices as listed on this site are quoted based on either a 'couple-sharing' (double room) a cabin together,
or 4 guests sharing a cabin unit (quad unit).
All guest accommodation are 'SELF-CATERING' units which allow clients to chose to either arrange your own meals or you can enjoy breakfast and meals in the Lodge's small limited menu Beach Diner/Bar next door….
And each cabin unit has a normal round 'Weber' Barbecue located outside each guest unit, with outside table and chairs where most guests enjoy their own cooked meals.
All units have their own private 'shared' bathroom in each unit - (Shower/Basin/WC)
All units have there own independent 'HOT WATER' supply 24/7…..
All units have anti-Mozzie protection on doors and windows… Just in case.. if you want to bring your own bed-nets that's ok.

Inhacazul Lodge is the ideal tropical 'island hide-a-way' for short visits and longer vacations such as: Chill-out week-ender vacations, Honeymoon couples, short Diving Trips or longer underwater island Reef or Wreak expeditions, Saltwater game or fly fishing, Snorkeling Trips, Underwater Hunting Enthusiasts, (Spearo's) Eco-tours and birding expeditions, and even long island beach trekking trips where you can walk for miles over the same beaches as were first stepped upon over 500 years ago by the first Portuguese explorers to this tropical part of East Africa….
When to visit:
Well due to the great (all-year round) weather on the Island, trips and vacations almost all year are very possible but if you want to be more exact in the weather patterns then:
April to September are the cooler, drier months - Annual rainfall ranges from 400 - 800 mm, falling mainly November to March.
December is the wettest month, while August is usually completely dry - Average daily temperatures are around 30C (85F) and it's fairly humid. While August to October are the windy months on the island.
Inhaca Eco-Tourism:
Inhaca Island is popular as an eco-tourism destination. The island habitat consists of central cultivated fields, grassy northern plains and eastern usnea-covered dune forests. Extensive exposed mudflats fringe the western and southern shores at low tide. Three largely undamaged coral reefs flank the island's western perimeters, all of which are protected marine reserves. Mangroves cover large sections of the northern shores and southern Saco Bay.
Among 160 coral species are Staghorn and Plate corals. Conspicuous fish are Moray eel, Potato bass, Barracuda and Kingfish. Others present are Brindle bass, Scorpionfish, Butterflyfish, Pufferfish, Parrotfish and Seahorses. Whale sharks and Manta rays visit in summer.
Humpback Whales and Bottlenose dolphins migrate seasonally past these shores. Sea turtles of different species visit the shores in summer to breed.
Inhaca has been home to ca 300 bird species, resident and migratory, bird species of conservation concern are Pink-backed Pelican, Lesser Crested Tern, Crab Plover, Greater Sand Plover, Mongolian Plover, Terek Sandpiper, Southern Banded Snake Eagle, Mangrove Kingfisher, Grey-rumped Swallow and Spotted Ground-Thrush.
The southerly Nhaquene Swamp and Saco Bay are strongholds of the rare Sooty Falcon.
Northerly Portuguese Island is a roost for several Tern species. Special birds of limited distribution are Rudd's Apalis, Neergaard's Sunbird and Pink-throated Twinspot.
