New Zealand’s Pohutukawa Festival launches summer down south
Coromandel is a beautiful seaside town on the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island.
It’s beautiful white beaches and spectacular coastal scenery already mean it’s a rather popular summer holiday destination… and at this time of year, the area’s indigenous Pohutukawa trees, indigenous burst into riotous crimson bloom, signalling the start of summer.
In celebration thereof, Coromandel holds its annual Pohutukawa Festival, a feast of live music, good food and other summer entertainments.
This year’s festival is already underway (started 21 November) and will run until the 7th of December 2008.
So, if you fancy a few days out under summer skies, listening to live bands, and possibly getting in some diving, head on south to crimson-flower-filled Coromandel!
