Travel Photo Of The Week - Werfen Castle Austria
We just love this fairytale castle, high up in the mountains in Austria…
It’s like something you’d see in Disneyland, complete with flitting fairies, only ever so much better because it’s real (and probably has a much more exciting history within its walls than a Disney lookalike would ever manage to scrape together).
Or like something out of a movie, especially the kind where people sing a lot… and, as it turns out, it is. Parts of The Sound of Music were shot here, with the castle as a backdrop.
Anyone else feel the urge to burst into spontaneous joyful (delightfully posh-English-accented) song? “The hills are alive….with the sound of …”? Ahem, okay, so maybe it’s just us.
Moving swiftly along: this photo was taken by ‘hey trace’, a member of the backpackers travel photo pool on Flickr.
