Airlie Beach Is Flashpacker Heaven

Great article here about the ‘booming trend’ in flashpacking – that being the kind of backpacking that doesn’t have the pesky constraints of a shoestring budget.
These are the travellers who have plenty of dosh, but don’t want to stay in stuffy 5-star hotels. They want the flexibility and spontaneity of the backpacking life, but don’t have to worry too much about how they’re going to get it.
Enter the ‘flashpacker resort’ – a backpacker-style hostel with the creature comforts to which flashpackers have become accustomed:
Flashpacker “resorts” are popping up everywhere, from large cities to small country towns. But if there is one destination that epitomises flashpacker heaven, it must be Queensland’s Airlie Beach – considered the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands.
Hostels and lower-priced hotels have taken standards up a notch, offering more bling for the buck. Beachfront rooms, balconies, plasma TVs… even privacy is possible. (link)
The article goes on to list some of Airlie Beach’s flashpacker accommodation options, as well as the ‘extras’ they provide.
