Backpackers On The Road: Round The World Travel Blogs

November 21st, 2006 by Pia Taylor

All around the world there are backpackers on the road, writing about their travels in trip journals as they go. These journals can be incredibly inspiring, and are often very informative, giving insights that one doesn’t get from reading a destination guide.

Today we’re featuring round-the-world traveller, ‘Bootsmade4wlkin’, from Arlington, Virginia (USA) who though no longer travelling, spent about a year (2005/6) wandering the globe.

Her travel blog, entitled ‘Because it’s the only thing I know for sure that I want to do…’ will take you on a journey that starts in Australia, on into Asia, through Russia and into Europe, before her return home in September 2006.

It’s a blog full of insights. The joys of travel, the excitement of new places, the good times and the bad times, and the challenge of going back to a normal life once you get home.

Here’s an excerpt from her last entry before she returned to the States:

Back to reality… a reality that is more foreign to me than the squat toilets of SE Asia. Sitting here in a cafe crammed with little tables, the smell of smoke wafting around me, I find myself paralyzed in time. I can’t go forward or backward. If I look to the future, a black hole looms. The big ‘What next?’ question is so overwhelming and unknown, I can’t begin to face it. (link)
