Venice is about to become the first city to charge visitors an entrance fee.
Slightly controversial, perhaps, but when one sees images like this one, of the Italian city’s beautiful canals and buildings, one begins to feel that it would be worth it.
This mesmerising shot was taken by Karney Li, a member of the Backpackers Travel Photo Pool on Flickr.
Lovely contrasting colours, and the serenity of the scene make it easy to forget about the 50,000 tourists that visit the city every single day.
