The Burning Man Goes Green: Carbon Footprints in Black Rock City

The Burning Man Festival has announced its 2007 dates (27 August to 3 September) as well as the new art theme for the festival: Green Man.
‘This year our art theme will express the immanence of nature in our lives in a variety of ways. The Burning Man will stand atop a structure that resembles green mountain peak. Nestled at its base, a forest will provide both shade and shelter for participants.’
But, that’s not all, folks. Perhaps in response to posts like this one, Burning Man is going eco-friendly next year.
This they will do by calculating the ‘carbon footprint’ of the festival (that’s the ‘amount of climate changing gases that are released into the air by the construction and the burning of the Man and its pedestal’) and then sponsoring projects in the outside world that will ‘efface this imprint’.

That seems to be inline with the whole spirit of Burning Man, which seems so community-oriented anyway.
More respect to them.

Obviously they couldn’t get away with polluting, so this is a marketing decision. Going green is always a good decision and they’ll proabably attract more ecotravellers
