Tales From The Playa: Insights From Burning Man
Burning Man 2006 is done and dusted. After a week of hedonistic desert fun, revellers have packed their bags, departed from their beloved Black Rock City, and made their weary way back into an all too real world.
If you haven’t yet been, but are looking for reasons to do so (or are simply curious), ‘Tales from the Playa’ is a good place to read first-hand accounts from some of the Burning Man’s biggest fans.
Says Cybele in ‘The Goddess of Love in the Liminal City’:
‘They say Burning Man changes lives. They say Burning Man ruins lives, too. Don’t be frightened! Burning Man will only ruin your life in the best possible way’.
Some other tales that inspired me were ‘You Can Go Back Home But Sometimes It Might Not Be There’ – on visiting the Playa out of season, ‘The Cyclopath’ – a ‘random encounter, with bicycle chain’ and ‘Somebody Went to Burning Man and All I Got Were These Lousy Crutches’ – a ‘severely painful encounter, with bicycle chain’.
